South Africans still have confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa and the uncertainty over the ANC’s Top 7 results did cause some anxiety in the country, this is the view of some of the Eastern Cape Delegates who are attending the ANC’s 55th National Elective and Policy Conference in Nasrec.
Ramaphosa defeated former Health Minister Zweli Mkhize and was re-elected as ANC President this morning.
Siphiwo Ngqondi from the Eastern Cape noted that the uncertainty of Ramaphosa’s re-election caused anxiety among South Africans who were waiting in anticipation and concerned that someone other than Ramaphosa could emerge as the new leader .
“That tells you that people have confidence in the ANC. It also tells you about that ability and the presidency of comrade Cyril Ramaphosa. So as the province of the Eastern Cape we are happy and we are overjoyed,“ said Ngqondi.
The Mpumalanga province also threw its weight behind Ramaphosa while Ronald
Lamola was their preferred candidate for ANC deputy president position.
Myboy Mdakane from Mpumalanga also welcomed the election of the ANC top brass and said as young people, they welcome the generational mix that includes the likes of Fikile Mbalula .
“We are also happy they balanced the gender issues of officials because we have three females and four males”.
But an unhappy KwaZulu-Natal delegate, Khethumusa Zunga said the results were rigged.
The province was backing Mkhize for the President and Mdumiseni Ntuli for Secretary General and both lost the race for the top positions.
“I am sad because these results are not real. There is a manipulation of results. Cyril couldn’t have emerged so it is his money that has emerged,” said Zunga.
