Sibusiso Kula, an ANC MP who is accused of killing his wife, was granted R50,000 bail by the North West High Court.
The Orkney Magistrate’s Court had initially denied Kula’s bail application following his arrest in January this year.
The 34-year-old faces a murder charge after Jennifer Motlhomi’s body was found on 27 November 2022, in what seemed like a robbery.
Kula was also ordered to hand over his passports. Additionally, he is required to report twice daily to the closest police station and give the investigating officer a copy of his daily schedule.
According to police records, Kula’s wife was found dead on November 27, 2022, in what appeared to be a robbery. She had a stab wound on her back when she was discovered, but the weapon thought to have been used in her suspected murder has not been located.
The hospital where she was reportedly taken by the accused to receive medical care filed a report on the incident.
Kula was detained and charged on January 20, 2023, as a result of the police’s extensive investigations that established a link between him and the alleged murder. Further investigations are still underway.
