The African National Congress (ANC) has summoned its former president Jacob Zuma to appear before party’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) next week Tuesday at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.
According to a letter from NDC, the former president is charged with two counts of contravening the party’s constitution by aligning himself with the uMkhonto weSizwe party (MK).
The letter was signed 24 April 2024.
“Your guilty of contravening rule 25.17.17.4 of the ANC constitution, which reads, acting on behalf of or in collaboration with a political organisation or party other than organisation or party in alliance with the ANC in a manner contrary to the aims, policies, and objectives of the ANC,” read the letter.
The letter also stated that Zuma addressed an MK rally in Soweto, where he called on all South Africans to him in dislodging the ANC as the ruling party.
Zuma was also furnished with letters of contravening another rule of the party.
“Your guilty of contravening rule 25.17.13 of the ANC constitution, by joining or supporting a political organisation or party, other than an organisation in alliance with the ANC, in a manner contrary to the aims, objectives and policy of the ANC,” added the letter.
According to the letter, Zuma contravened the rule, by appearing on the list for public representatives of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, contrary to the rule because the MKP is not an organisation that is in an alliance with the ANC.
Addressing a recent ANC rally, Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, said Zuma had effectively disqualified himself by associating with MK.
Meanwhile, the MK Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela, was quoted in the media saying Zuma “will be ready and available to face the charges levelled against him.”
