The body of an unidentified woman was found in a dam in Moroka, Soweto, on Sunday.

The discovery comes as the province continues to reel from the discovery of nine bodies in Ekurhuleni, an area that has since been placed under lockdown.

Gauteng police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with information that could assist with the investigation.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulu confirmed the discovery of the body, which was found wrapped in a duvet.

“The unidentified body was found wrapped in a duvet on 20 September 2026 at about 17:00. The victim is estimated to be in her twenties. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage,” said Nevhuhulu.

She appealed to residents to come forward with any information that could assist the police.

“The police appeal to members of the community who may have information regarding the incident or any information that can assist with investigations to contact their nearest police station or the police crime stop number 08600 10111 or alternatively use the MySAPSApp to provide tip-offs anonymously,” she said.

No link has been established between the body found in Soweto and those discovered recently in Ekurhuleni. Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, a man and two women were expected to appear in court on Monday after being arrested on murder charges in connection with one of the bodies discovered in Ekurhuleni.
