British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has made an inspiring return to the gym, sharing intense training footage on Snapchat just 19 days after a devastating car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends and team members.

The former two-time world heavyweight champion posted clips showing him shadowboxing, working pads, using resistance bands, cycling on a stationary bike, and even diving into a pool—marking his first public glimpse back into training since the December 29, 2025, incident near Lagos.

One video carried the poignant caption “mental strength therapy”, underscoring how Joshua is channeling the grief into physical and mental recovery. The crash occurred when the Lexus SUV in which Joshua was a rear passenger collided with a stationary truck on a major highway. Strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele tragically died at the scene, while Joshua escaped with minor injuries and was briefly hospitalized.

The driver of the vehicle faces charges of dangerous or reckless driving, with Nigerian authorities confirming an arrest and ongoing investigation shortly after the event.

Joshua, 36, paid tribute to his lost friends in earlier social media posts, expressing deep sorrow for their families and describing them as “my brother’s keeper.” Funerals for Ghami and Ayodele took place in London earlier this month.

The footage comes amid a remarkable career resurgence for Joshua, who delivered a dominant sixth-round knockout victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19, 2025, at the Kaseya Center in Miami—a fight streamed globally on Netflix and hailed as a highlight of his comeback trail. The win occurred just 10 days before the fatal crash.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has praised Joshua’s resilience, noting the boxer’s toughness in processing the trauma while emphasising that any return to competitive boxing will come only when the time is right. Hearn has urged caution, prioritising healing over rushed timelines amid widespread fan concern and retirement speculation.

Fans have rallied in support, flooding social media with messages of encouragement and admiration for Joshua’s determination. Many described the training clips as a powerful testament to his fighter’s spirit in the face of unimaginable loss.
