The North West Department of Education has pleaded with independent schools that are not in compliance with the legislation or are not registered to begin doing so,to be able to receive support in incorporating Early Childhood Development Centers and implementing the 4IR. Maloyi launches Thuntsa Lerole, a programme to address service delivery challenges in the North West
Acting North West Premier Nono Maloyi has made a new commitment to speed up service delivery in the province. Maloyi launched Thuntsha Lerole, on Friday in Ipelegeng township outside Schweizer Reneke, a project aimed at accelerating the provision of essential services to the communities. “It is critical that we change the way we do things; on many occasions, we are simply talking but not providing services to the people. A mother in Jouberton, outside Klerksdorp in the North West, wants answers following a failed suicide attempt by her 15-year-old daughter, after she had complained about relentless bullying at school. The Grade 9 learner from Alabama Secondary School is said to have slit her wrists in an apparent attempt to take her own life. The case against five men arrested for robbing a cellphone store in Klerksdorp has been postponed by the Orkney Magistrates Court. The suspects were arrested 30 minutes after the robbery when their vehicle was spotted on the R30 road near Orkney. According to the court documents, the firearm that was found inside the suspects’ vehicle, was stolen during a house robbery in the Free State. The suspects are facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property. The case was postponed to September 11 for further investigations. The North West Department of Education has provided five mobile classrooms at Zamukulunga Public School in Jouberton, outside Klerksdorp, as a temporary solution to the school’s classroom shortages caused by the renovations at the school. This comes after parents of learners, particularly those in the foundation phase, complained that their children were not adjusting to the newly implemented platooning system, which required grade 1 to grade 3 learners to attend school in shifts. Two suspected illegal miners were granted bail by the Orkney Magistrates Court in the North West while 26 others, mostly from Lesotho, were remanded in custody. The suspects were arrested last Wednesday, while they were being transported in three taxis. It is alleged that some of the suspects fired shots at the police, who returned fire, resulting in the death of one of the suspects.
