The Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp, North West is bankrupt after Eskom withdrew R89 million from its bank accounts for its failure to pay its R1.5 billion debt to the power utility, according to the Mayor James Tsolela. The municipality and Eskom have been at loggerheads since 2020, and numerous judgements have been handed down over the unpaid debt, the latest being in March, but the municipality has been unsuccessful in appealing the court orders. The North West MEC of Finance Motlalepule Rosho hosted a group of learners from Grade 9 to Grade 11 at the Youth Career Guidance Summit in Klerksdorp on Thursday. Residents of Signal Village in Mahikeng North West are celebrating after their community member Tete Dijana put on yet another amazing performance to win the Comrades Marathon championship yesterday. The 35-year-old Dijana crossed the line in 5 hours -13 minutes 58 seconds, breaking the record set by David Gatebe in 2016 at 5 hours, 18 minutes, and 19 seconds. The transfer of Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs) from the Social Development Department to the Education Department has had many challenges for some facilities in the North West. More than 40 registered ECDs have not received subsidies from the government since the transfer of the function and others did not receive any payment in the last five months. Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu says a steering committee he put together has come up with concrete plans for providing water and sanitation to residents of the North West. Mchunu who assembled the team earlier in the year was speaking in Klerksdorp on the sidelines of the ANC National Working Committee visit. “What we found is that there are many issues that need to be attended to by water services management.
