The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) reconvened its meeting on Sunday in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, following an adjournment on Friday to allow members to attend the funeral service of the late MP Violet Siwela in Bushbuckridge, in Mpumalanga. Siwela, who passed away a week ago after spending a few days in hospital, was laid to rest on Saturday where Deputy President Paul Mashatile delivered a eulogy. North West premier Bushy Maape is in Thailand receiving further medical treatment. This was revealed by the province Head of Communications, Brian Setswambung, “Premier Maape will be out of the country from 21 January until 31 January 2024. “This follows and advice and referral by his doctor to seek further medical treatment in Thailand,” said Setwambung. Maape resumed his duties in November last year, after he fell ill following minor orthopaedic surgery in June 2023. The North West province has once again obtained 4th position in the overall matric results that were announced by the Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga in Randburg, north of Johannesburg on Thursday evening. This as the class of 2023 received 81.6% pass rate, an increase of 1.8% when compared to the class of 2022 that received 79.8%.Free State, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng are the three top leading provinces followed by North West respectively. Friday marks exactly seven days since a woman was swept away by flash floods when she was driving in Sunninghill during heavy rains in Johannesburg. Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) in collaboration with the SAPS and other rescue services units have been searching for the body of the woman without any success at the Jukskei River since last weekend. EMS earlier this week said that search teams were divided into three and focused on Dainfern, Steyn City and Monaghan Farm, but without any success. The family of a Mahikeng woman in the North West Bonolo Modiseemang who was allegedly killed by her aunt Agnes Setshwantsho for insurance claims, want the accused to be denied bail. This as the Molopo Magistrates Court will today hand down judgment on her bail application. Speaking to Newsnote, the deceased’s father George Botlhoko reiterated the call for her alleged murder to rot in jail. “We want the court to deny her bail. The Department of Health in Limpopo has confirmed that two people tested positive for cholera in the Vhembe and Capricorn Districts, respectively. The patients who are both Zimbabwean nationals presented cholera symptoms upon their return to South Africa from the festive holidays back home. It is reported that the first case was confirmed in the Musina sub-district where a 43-year man has since been discharged from a local hospital. Black First Land First (BLF) leader Andile Mngxitama is on Tuesday expected to lead a delegation from his movement for a meeting with former president Jacob Zuma in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal. The Molopo Magistrates court in Mahikeng in the North West will on Friday deliver judgment in the bail application of murder accused and insurance fraudster, Agnes Setshwantsho. This is after both the defence and state delivered their closing arguments on Monday, following testimony by the investigating officer, Sergeant Kheshi Mabunda, and the Correctional Department nurse from the facility where the accused is detained. South Africans will endure stage 5 rolling blackouts during the day and stage 6 at night until Saturday. The power utility said this is due to insufficient generation capacity and the need to further replenish emergency reserves. “Stage 5 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 today until 20:00.
