The Gauteng Department of Health (GDH) has appointed an independent investigator to probe allegations of corruption and maladministration levelled against the CEO of Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria Dr Sello Matjila after workers downed tools and disrupted services at the hospital demanding the removal of Matjila. Mamelodi families whose two young boys drowned in quarry have received a settlement after the intervention of ActionSA which offered legal representation to deal with the matter. However, a prompt visit to the area where the incident happened showed that the quarry was poorly fenced with some parts having gaping holes; there was flooding and the nearby shacks covered in water. Gauteng AIDS council chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi says young girls aged between 15 and 24 are the most vulnerable and contribute 20% to new HIV infections. The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola will make an announcement at the “right time” on paper whether to stay the Apex Court decision to release Chris Hani’s killer on parole or not. Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has interdicted striking workers and prohibited the protesters from damaging properties and intimidation. The Department said it obtained an interdict at the Johannesburg Labour Court against several unions preventing their members from obstructing the rendering of health services to patients. “The interim interdict is applicable with immediate effect and prevents striking public servants from assaulting, threatening, intimidating and inciting violence in respect to any employees or staff members across our health facilities,” said the department in a statement. “It also prohibits the protesters from destroying or damaging any property or preventing free movement or access…

The SACP has accused the South African government of lacking the political will to probe the death of its late leader Chris Hani who was assassinated by Polish migrant Yanusz Walus who is expected to walk out of prison on parole tomorrow. The tripartite alliance marched to the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane in protest against the release of the Walus on parole. Hani was the SACP general secretary when he was shot and killed outside his home in Boksburg, Benoni by Walus on 10 April 1993. This happened on the eve of South Africa’s first democratic elections.…
Three union federations – Cosatu, Fedusa and Saftu – are demanding that the government return to the negotiating table to revise the current offer of a 10% wage hike for public servants they put on the table. Public servants have given the government seven days to respond to the memorandum of demand. Earlier this month, wage negotiations in the public sector deadlocked with the unions opting for individual dispute resolution processes. Trade unions affiliated to Fedusa, Saftu and Cosatu were afforded certificates of non-resolution while teacher union Sadtu accepted the wage offer. Convicted rapist and repeat offender, Amos Khumalo will have to wait a little bit longer for his sentence to be handed down on the rape and kidnapping charges he is facing. Khumalo was initially charged with two counts of rape and kidnapping after he lured two minors from Lotus Garden to a Pretoria Hotel where he allegedly raped them in November 2020.
