The SAPS National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident that claimed the life of a presidential protection officer over the weekend. “I must also clarify that what happened as we know is an accident. This accident is under investigation. The relevant accident unit together with the relevant RTMC [Road Traffic Management Corporation] will investigate the accident and once we have the outcome we will make it known to everyone,” said Masemola. The Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates Court has postponed the identity theft case against Farai Mapeye to 20 December after his defence lawyer left court to attend to an emergency. Mapeye has been charged with fraud and being in South Africa illegally and is expected to apply for bail next month. It is alleged that Mapeye stole the identity of Michael Maluleke and used it for over two decades and secured a job using Maluleke’s identity. There needs to be better synergy between crime intelligence and South African Police Service (SAPS) to combat the high crime rates in the country, this is according to Forensic expert at Bizz Tracers, Calvin Rafadi. The Congress of South African Trade Unions, the Federation of Unions of South Africa and the South African Federation of Trade Unions want the government to return to the negotiating table to revise its current offer and give the workers a 10% wage increase. Earlier this month, wage negotiations in the public sector deadlocked with unions opting for individual dispute resolution processes. Trade unions affiliated to Fedusa, Saftu and Cosatu were afforded certificates of non-resolution while teacher union Sadtu accepted the wage offer. City of Tshwane mayor Randall Williams has appointed ActionSA acting caucus leader Kgosietsile Kgosiemang as the new Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Human Settlements. Kgosiemang will replace the former MMC for Human Settlement, Abel Tau who was fired from the position following allegations of sexual assault. Tshepo Thobane, the defence lawyer for two of the five accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, said he will await fresh instructions on whether to proceed with an application to review the proceedings at another court. The court case against five men accused of the Murder of Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa has hit a snag after it was postponed to next year for the new defence lawyer to familiarise himself with the case. The first two suspects Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, terminated the mandate of their legal representative, Tshepo Thobane on Monday. After three days of recovery efforts, rescue teams finally found the body of the 11-year-old boy who drowned while allegedly walking with friends on the banks of the river.
