City of Tshwane mayor Randall Williams has appointed ActionSA acting caucus leader Kgosietsile Kgosiemang as the new Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Human Settlements. Kgosiemang will replace the former MMC for Human Settlement, Abel Tau who was fired from the position following allegations of sexual assault. ActionSA has also since terminated Tau’s membership citing that he has brought the party into disrepute
“Positions of authority and power in ActionSA are entrusted responsibilities to leaders that can never be abused tor sexual advances or to subjugate women. This conduct has brought ActionSA into disrepute,” said ActionSA in a statement. The Human Settlements portfolio is very important to the City as we seek to address the housing backlog in the municipality and manage challenges, such as illegal land occupation and the relocation and formalisation of informal settlements, along with the issuing of title deeds and ensuring the development of social housing.
“Cllr Kgosiemang possesses strong experience in leadership and management. He is a member of various professional organisations, such as the Institute of Directors South Africa, the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa and the Institute of Risk Management South Africa. His professional background and qualifications are within the realm of internal auditing,” said Williams.
The multi-party government in the metro comprises DA, ActionSA, Cope, the Freedom Front Plus and the ACDP. Williams reassured residents the multi-party government was stable and committed to driving service delivery to all through a dedicated executive team composed of various members of the multiparty coalition, he said.
