After losing a whopping 24 seats in the metro council, the DA became the biggest loser in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, after the IEC released its final local government election results on Thursday evening. Political analysts have blamed the long weekend, COVID-19 and lack of trust in the existing political parties for the dismal turnout for this year’s local government elections. South Africa has a total of 38,5-million eligible voters and 26.2-million of them are registered to vote for this 2021 municipal election. The mayor of Ngaka Modiri Molema District municipality in the North West, Khumalo Molefe, has encouraged athletes and artists to balance their talent with education. Molefe said this during the meeting with the North West based Vrisgewacht Wild Cats Jump Rope team ahead of its Virtual World Double Dutch Championship competition that will be held on Friday. Four young graduates from the North West who previously seemed destined for failure have had a breakthrough after being given bursaries by the provincial agriculture department, which has now committed to employing them. One of the graduates, Nomalanga Sibinda of Podumong outside Taung initially wanted to pursue a qualification in environmental studies but did not have the funds to do so. Her breakthrough came in 2019 when the government awarded her a bursary, which she used to obtain a degree in Agriculture specialising in irrigation.
