The Gauteng provincial government multi stakeholder initiative is showing signs of early success. The province entered into a deal with all 11 municipalities of Gauteng that includes the three metros of Joburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni in November last year and have already embarked on crackdown operations across the province with hundreds of arrests. The City of Joburg has vowed to reclaim patches of land that have been turned into illegal dumping sites to convert them into public amenities. The KleenaJoburg 100 sites campaign was launched by mayor Dada Morero at Senwana, Soweto in a park that was initially a dumping site right in the middle of the township. Floyd Shivambu has been removed as the Secretary General of uMkhonto weSizwe (MKP) just a few months into the position. MKP announced the decision at a media briefing in Durban on Tuesday stating that it follows a meeting of officials with party leader Jacob Zuma, the former president of South Africa. The Mayoral Committee Member for Roads and Transport in the City of Joburg roads Kenny Kunene has underplayed tensions that arose at a community meeting he was scheduled to address which had to be abondoned. Deputy president Paul Mashatile has warned that political interference in the running of government departments and State Owned Entities makes it impossible for the state function optimally. Mashatile held a round table panel discussion in Pretoria where he cautioned against the removal of key officials by politicians without sound reason.
