President Cyril Ramaphosa said the ANC has noted former president Jacob Zuma’s announcement that he will not be voting nor campaigning for the party during next year’s elections. The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management is targeting less fatalities during this year’s festive season. The province recorded 94 fatalities during the 2022/23 statistics, which was a 21% reduction when compared to 119 recorded during the 2021/22 period. The department MEC Sello Lehari said safety is everybody’s responsibility and it is important for every citizen to play a role. “Our target is to have less fatalities and improve from last year’s achievements as we had a reduction. Nine people have been killed in a mass shooting and scores others injured, when a group of unknown people stormed their home and opened fire on them at the Popo Molefe informal settlement in Boitekong near Rustenburg in the North West. African National Congress (ANC) veteran, Mavuso Msimang, has withdrawn his resignation letter from the ANC, and rejoined the party. Msimang resigned from the party last week, citing its failure to discipline corrupt members and unhappiness about comments made by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, about the veterans’ call for the party to discipline corrupt members. The bail application of alleged murderer and insurance fraudster Agnes Setshwantsho has been postponed to 20 December 2023 by the Molopo Magistrates’ Court in Mahikeng, North West. The 49-year-old Setshwantsho is facing a charge of murder, two of fraud and one of defeating the ends of justice. The Gauteng Provincial Government has welcomed the announcement of the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, to designate the Crime Prevention Wardens as peace officers and be accorded the same status as traffic officers. This follows complaints by some political parties and non-governmental organizations, that the wardens, popularly known as Amapanyaza, were not properly trained and due processes were not followed during the formation of their unit. The Western Cape High Court has ruled that alleged parliament arsonist, Zandile Mafe, is not fit to stand trial and must be held in a psychiatric hospital. Delivering the judgment, Judge Nathan Erasmus said his ruling is based on medical experts reports that were commissioned by the court and Mafe’s legal team.
