President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the announcement by the State of Qatar that a four-day humanitarian pause has been agreed in the conflict in Gaza. In a statement, the President commended the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America on mediation efforts that will enable the release of Palestinian detainees and Israeli hostages. On Tuesday, Sergeant Batho Mogola refuted claims that two of the individuals charged with Senzo Meyiwa’s murder had been forcibly detained and tortured in order to extract confessions. The defense highlighted what they consider to be the police’s strategy for detaining the suspects in the football star’s murder. Former Eskom Chief Executive Officer Matshela Koko says he is vindicated after the Middleburg Magistrates Court struck off the roll the R2.2 billion Eskom Kusile fraud, corruption, and money-laundering charges case. The National Prosecuting Authority, NPA, is accusing Koko of siphoning the money to his family, friends, and other suspects. The National Assembly has placed nine officials on precautionary suspension with full pay over alleged security breaches that led to the fire that gutted some parts of Parliament last January. The Independent Electoral Commission, IEC, said it is pleased with the turnout of the first day of voter registration weekend. The IEC said this is testament that there is a huge interest in voter registration. “We confirm that in the initial hours of this morning, 90% of the voting stations were already opened, with the residual opening and confirming operation by 08:30.
