Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said it is unacceptable that Eskom has lost 17 300 megawatts due to outages, that resulted in the return of load shedding since last week. He said this is reversing most of the positive gains made by the utility in the past, to keep the loss at 14 500 megawatts as a benchmark. Ramokgopa was briefing the media in Pretoria about the government’s Energy Action Plan. “We have received about 17 500 megawatts of electricity loss, and that is significant on many accounts. It undermines the positive trajectory that we’ve been having since last month that there’s improvement on…

President Cyril Ramaphosa said it is time for the African continent to produce and refine its own materials, instead of exporting it to other countries. Ramaphosa was delivering a keynote address at the 20th African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg. AGOA is a unilateral trade preference scheme that provides qualifying Sub-Saharan African countries with duty-free, quota-free access into the United States market, but only provided to countries that meet democratic conditions. “Africa is an important source of critical raw materials, but we do not want to be defined as simply producers of commodities. Gone should be…

Kolisi was speaking at the Union Buildings, Pretoria, during the start of the team’s Webb Ellis Trophy, where he was received by Ramaphosa and some of the cabinet ministers. “We need to use our diversity a bit more, it’s a powerful force that a lot of countries don’t have that we have and can use very brightly. Coming from different backgrounds and areas, we all see different life challenges and we see…
