The North West Health Department and North West University (NWU) have signed a historic Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the establishment of the NWU Desmond Tutu School of Medicine at the Potchefstroom Campus. The medical school will be the first in the province and is expected to enroll the first students by 2028. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned about another intense cold front that is expected to hit some parts of the country from Wednesday until Friday. The North West Health Department has launched an investigation following the death of a long-term patient at the Witrand Hospital in Potchefstroom. Two South African nationals who were released from detention in Equatorial Guinea following a Presidential Pardon, have arrived home. Peter Huxham and Frederic Potgieter were arrested in 2023 at a hotel in the capital Malabo, on drug related charges. They were subsequently sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment, but their families had vehemently maintained that the charges were trumped-up. The Gauteng Health Department has expressed concern over the increasing number of cases of measles in the province. A total of 181 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the year, with most cases reported in Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni districts. “This persistent outbreak follows previous clusters dating back to 2022, which led to a measles vaccination campaign in 2023. “In the latest reporting period, Gauteng recorded 15 new measles cases, ten of which were reported in Tshwane, two in Johannesburg, two in Ekurhuleni, and one in West Rand. “The outbreak remains active in specific hotspot areas including Mamelodi…
