Police are investigating the cause of the fire that left 23 buses burnt at a depot in Mabopane, north of Pretoria. According to authorities, the buses belong to Starline Bus Company. Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni says firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze and no injuries werereported. The fire was reported as a grassfire incident to the Emergency Communication Centre at about 12:16, and a fire engine was immediately dispatched from Mabopane Fire Station to the scene. The Department of Health has sought to assure the nation not to panic, following the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant, known as Nimbus or NB.1.8.1. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) the variant has been recorded in more than 20 countries, including India, Thailand, Indonesia and China.
