The City of Tshwane has written off over R4.3 billion of customers’ debt through its incentive and debt-relief scheme which was introduced earlier this year. The City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo told YOU FM Newshour listeners that the initiative is part of the city’s commitment to provide financial relief to hard-pressed residents, businesses, deceased’s estates, indigent and child-headed households. “Of the R4.3 billion, R2.4 billion was written off from more than 85 000 indigent accounts. Judges Matter, which monitors the country’s judicial system, has welcomed Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng’s apology following his outburst last week Thursday at the Pretoria High Court which is hearing the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in the North West has undertaken to crack the whip on underperforming municipalities in the province. The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Premier and Finance has expressed disappointment with the provincial government’s failure to ensure gender equity in senior appointments. This emerged during an oversight meeting with the Office of the Premier on employment equity in senior management, particularly amongst Deputy Directors-General (DDGs) and Heads of Department (HODs). Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, David Mahlobo has called for an acceleration plan to expedite the completion of the upgrading of the Brits Water Treatment Works (WTW) in the North West which has been marred by lengthy delays since its inception 16 years ago. The Moses Kotane Local Municipality in Mogwase in the North West has vowed to prioritise basic service delivery like water, roads, and the construction of new RDP houses within its 107 villages and two townships in the 2025/26 financial year. The council adopted a R225m budget and IDP prompting the municipality to continue with services to the communities.
