Five people were killed in a head-on collision on Saturday night on the N4 road near Moedwil west of Rustenburg in the North West. The accident happened about 4 kilometres outside the farming area of Moedwil, where 7 people lost their lives in a car collision a month ago. It is alleged that a driver tried to overtake on a yellow lane and lost control of the vehicle colliding with an oncoming car. Most parts of the country continue to experience heavy rains and in Rustenburg in the North West, several roads have been closed because of flooding. Authorities say passengers in two cars had to be rescued this morning on Westonia Road between Puma Garage Bethlehem Drive, after their vehicles were overwhelmed by floods. Concerned Business Forum Leaders in the North West have called on local businesses to pay their municipal debts following a campaign by the Madibeng Local Municipality to cut off services for those who were defaulting on rates and taxes. The campaign dubbed Óperation Patela Madibeng, kicked off in earnest this week where officials went around disconnected businesses and households said to be in arrears and owed the Madibeng Municipality millions in unpaid money. As the Madibeng Local Municipality embarks on a debt collection campaign to cut off defaulters’ electricity supply, some business owners in Brits, North West, claim they are unfairly targeted and are demanding to be reconnected, saying they are up to date with their payments.
