Parents of learners who stay in farms around Olifantsnek, Modderfontein, Kroondaal and surrounding areas, outside Rustenburg, North West, are complaining about the safety of their children, who have to walk about eight kilometres to school, due to lack of scholar transport. The Community of Swartruggens, outside Rustenburg, North West, took their grievances to the streets on Wednesday in protest against poor service delivery from the local Municipality and the local SAPS. The protesters have alleged that whenever crime is reported to Swartruggens Police Station, the suspects are tipped off and then the police launch unsuccessful raids. The Phokeng police near Rustenburg, North West are asking the community to help them find a 35-year-old man who is mentally unstable and went missing and was last seen on Sunday 4 June 2023 inside his home carrying a black refuse bag. Over one thousand community members in Marikana, outside Rustenburg, North West, are continuing to benefit from Agri-Hub – an NGO launched by the Mineworkers Development Agency in partnership with Sibanye-Stillwater and Rand Mutual Assurance with the aim of promoting sustainable socio-economic development in mining communities through agriculture. A section of Modderspruit Village near Brits in the North West, has been without electricity for more than three weeks and there is no plausible explanation from authorities, the affected residents say.
