Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga said 225 people lost their lives on our roads during the Easter weekend, 64 more lives than we lost last year during the same period. Chikunga said this in Midrand today when she was releasing the statistics on road fatalities during the Easter weekend when many people go on holiday or others go back home in different parts of the country. The African National Congress (ANC) has refused to divulge details of the meeting of its senior leaders with former President Thabo Mbeki. Mbeki met the officials yesterday following the leaking of his letter criticising the party for using its parliamentary majority to protect President Cyril Ramaphosa whom he believes has a case to answer about his Phala Phala farm scandal. The City of Joburg Mayor Thapelo Amad has cautioned motorists and pedestrians to be responsible on the roads this coming Easter to avoid unnecessary accidents which may lead to fatalities. The City of Joburg loses up to R4 billion annually to cable theft and vandalism and there had been more than 2 000 incidents of thefts of critical power infrastructure in the last 12 months, according to Joburg’s City Power CEO Tshifularo Mashava. Newly appointed Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille said she has told the SA Tourism Board that the proposed English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur FC R1 billion deal must be canned because it is unlawful and irregular. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander in Chief Julius Malema said in a media briefing today his party has managed to release 230 people who were arrested during their shutdown on Monday. The shutdown led by the Red Berets was meant to put pressure on the government to fix Eskom so it can provide sufficient electricity, ending load shedding and for President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down.
