The North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, is optimistic that the lifting of vegetable exports from South Africa to Botswana, will boost trade for local farmers. The ban was imposed on 16 vegetables back in December 2021 and came into effect in January 2022. Botswana attributed the decision to the promotion of self-sufficient food security and the protection of local producers. The International Boxing Association (IBA) has announced plans to take legal action against the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the inclusion of Algeria and Taiwan fighters, Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. The association expressed concern that the IOC cleared the fighters to participate at the Olympics, after allegedly failing gender eligibility tests and were excluded from the IBA’s 2023 Championships. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that it has received an application filed by French arms company, Thales, in a bid to have the corruption charges against it dropped. Thales is the second accused in the case involving former President, Jacob Zuma. The two are facing charges of corruption, fraud, money laundering and racketeering. The Department of Employment and Labour has announced the increment of the National Minimum Wage for 2025. The rate will be adjusted from R27,58 to R28,79 per hour, from 01 March.
