Johannesburg Water has confirmed that water samples collected from affected properties in Bezuidenhout Valley, Johannesburg, showed no signs of contamination.
In a statement, the utility said tests conducted on samples collected on 23 and 25 October 2026 from properties along 8th Avenue, at the intersections with 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Streets, found no contamination.
“Johannesburg Water confirms that no contamination was detected in either set of water samples collected on 23 and 25 October 2026,” the entity said.
The results confirmed that both sets of samples met the required water quality standards for microbiological and chemical parameters.
Johannesburg Water said the follow-up samples collected on 25 October were taken as an additional precaution to verify the water quality.
Following the results, the utility lifted the precautionary water quality alert previously issued for the affected area.
Water supply to the affected properties is being restored, with Johannesburg Water’s technical team working to complete the process as soon as practically possible.
Once the supply has been restored, residents can resume normal water use, including drinking, cooking and other household activities.
The utility has advised residents to briefly run their taps to flush out any water that may have remained in their internal plumbing during the period when the supply was isolated.
Johannesburg Water apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked affected residents for their patience and cooperation during the sampling and testing process.
