The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced a fuel increase that will take effect from Wednesday.

This is the first increase after five months of consecutive decreases.

“Both grades of petrol will increase by 25 cents a litre, diesel will increase by 20 and 21 cents a litre.

Illuminating, paraffin will increase by 28 cents per litre at retail level and LP gas will increase by 36 cents per kilogram.

The reason for this increase is mainly due to higher oil prices on average during the period under review compared to the previous one.

The prices of LP gas are increasing due to higher prices of propane in butane, and the slate levy remains unchanged at zero cents per litre on both petrol and diesel,” said the department spokesperson, Robert Maake.

According to the department, the country’s fuel prices are adjusted monthly, informed by international and local factors.

The department highlighted that the Rand slightly appreciated on average, against the US Dollar, during the period under review.
