Motorists will have to dig deeper in their pockets at the pump stations.

This as the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced the fuel increase from 1 January 2025.

“Petrol 93-octane will increase by 19 cents a litre.

95-octane will increase by 12 cents a litre.

Diesel prices will increase by 7.5 cents and 10.5 cents a litre, depending on the grade, while

Illuminating paraffin will decrease by 13 cents a litre at the retail level.

Liquefied petroleum gas will increase by 13 cents per kilogram,” said the department spokesperson, Robert Maake.

In addition, Maake contributed the price increases to the weaker rand against the US dollar amongst others.

“The slightly higher oil prices during the period under review.

The slate levy remained unchanged at zero cents per litre in the price structures of petrol and diesel,” explained Maake.

Moreover, Maake said Minister Gwede Mantashe has approved the restoration of all the fuel pricing zones that were affected by the closure of the Port of Port Elizabeth to the original Magisterial District zones with effect from the 1st of January 2025.
