The Gauteng Department of Health has welcomed the arrest of bogus Doctor, Matthew Lani.
Lani was apprehended by security personnel at the Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg on Sunday night, while entering the main entrance of the facility, allegedly to “report for duty.”
“Lani was caught just before 8pm disguised in a hoodie and wearing a surgical mask with a stethoscope around his neck. He had previously entered the same facility to curate misleading content under the pretence that he was a qualified doctor,” said the department in a statement.
The statement added that after his arrest, the bogus Doctor requested to go to the bathroom, where he tried to escape by jumping through the bathroom window.
“When the security realised that he was making a run for it, they called for reinforcement, and he was subsequently apprehended again. The police were immediately called,” highlighted the statement.
Lani has since been handed over to the police for an official arrest.
The 27-year-old social media personality made the news recently when he was accused of parading as a medical doctor and also prescribed medical advice on his accounts.
Before his arrest, Lani posted a video on social media, informing his followers that he was about to report for duty.
A video posted on social media about his arrest shows Lani with a face mask, stethoscope, and theatre cap.
He can also be heard apologising to the security officers about his presence at the facility.
Meanwhile, Gauteng police have confirmed Lani’s arrest, adding that he will soon appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court, on a charge of impersonating medical personnel.
