The Bojanala Platinum District Municipality in the North West said it takes pride in being the only district amongst the four in the province to receive an unqualified audit opinion outcome from the Auditor General of South African for the financial year 2023/24.

This was revealed during a media briefing held by the municipality’s senior management led by the Executive Mayor, Suzan Ntangeni and the Acting Municipal Manager Dr. Auchalie Mothopi, in Rustenburg to outline the municipality’s achievements and future plans.

The briefing focused on the Unqualified Audit Outcome (2023/24), Poverty Alleviation Programme launched in the district, District Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme and Executive Mayor’s 100 days in office.

“For the first time in over a decade, our municipality has achieved an unqualified audit opinion for the 2023/24 financial year.

This remarkable outcome is a testament to our unwavering commitment to good governance, accountability, and sound financial management,” said Ntangeni.

In addition, the mayor said this achievement can be attributed to transparency, integrity and a collective effort of the municipality and the administration, led by Dr. Mothopi, to rebuild trust and confidence in the institution.

“This results did not come easily, it reflects the collective effort of the municipality’s administration led by the Acting Municipal Manager Dr. (Auchalie) Mothopi and our assurance structures which is the council, the audit committee, the MPAC and collective politicians in our council they ensured the commitment of our council to effective oversight,” explained Ntangeni.

Moreover, the municipality has undertaken to maintain the status quo and to ensure it trickles down to all five of its local Municipalities in the next financial years.

Regarding the registration of the spaza shops within the district, the mayor highlighted that the local municipalities have made considerable progress to register all the businesses as instructed by the president Cyril Ramaphosa and is hopeful that all will comply with the regulations.
