Fortunate Masilela and Tsakani Msithini appeared before the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday in connection with Ntimba’s murder.

Ntimba’s body was discovered in Dawn Park on Thursday.

The proceedings also considered whether the media should be permitted to photograph and film the accused.

Following deliberations, the court ruled that the two women may not be photographed or filmed from the front.

The court cited their personal circumstances, including the fact that both accused have minor children. Members of the media were permitted to photograph them from behind.

Accused to apply for bail

Defence lawyer Samkele Khuzani told the court that both women intend to apply for bail.

Khuzani argued that the accused have no previous convictions and have not previously had problems with the law.

“Both the accused persons before the court don’t have previous convictions, they don’t have interim protection orders against them,” Khuzani told the court.

The matter was postponed to 1 October, when the accused are expected to make a formal bail application.

A third suspect, who has not yet been formally charged, is expected to be released.

The case comes amid heightened concern over a series of women’s deaths in Gauteng, with police continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ntimba’s killing.
