Kaizer Chiefs have secured the Diski Challenge (DDC) title, defying expectations and challenges by achieving this milestone without four of their key players. These players, goalkeeper Takalani Mazhamba, defenders Gopolang Taunyana and Sifiso Timba, along with striker Naledi Hlongwane, are currently representing Amajita at the CAF 2025 AFCON Under-20 tournament in Egypt.
By clinching this prestigious title, Chiefs have managed to dethrone Stellenbosch FC, the previous defending champions who, despite their efforts, fell short against Marumo Gallants with a crushing 3-0 defeat this morning at the Idas Valley Sports Ground. Stellies, known for their tactical prowess, had previously won the DDC title in both the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons but found themselves unable to mount a successful defence.
The triumph signifies a turning point for the Chiefs, showcasing their depth and resilience as they adapt to challenges without their standout players. “It’s a testament to our squad strength and the depth we have built over the years,” commented the Chiefs’ coaching staff, while celebrating the team’s achievement. The dedication and hard work from the team, particularly from the under-21 squad, have been pivotal in securing this title.
As the season draws to a close, Chiefs are set to officially lift the DDC trophy following their final match against AmaZulu FC on Saturday, May 3, at the King Zwelithini Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 10:00. This match not only serves as a celebratory event but is also critical as the team looks to maintain their momentum ahead of next season.
