Chiefs bounced back from their shock MTN8 exit with a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
Luke Baartman and Mduduzi Shabalala scored in the second half to secure all three points for the Amakhosi.
Defending champions Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu in Durban.
Tshepang Moremi put Pirates ahead before Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya equalised from the penalty spot.
Mamelodi Sundowns also made a winning start to their league campaign, coming from behind to beat TS Galaxy 3-2 at Mbombela Stadium.
Sphelele Mkhulise was the hero for Sundowns, scoring twice late in the match to complete the comeback.
Elsewhere, Milford FC recorded their first Premiership victory with a 1-0 win over Siwelele FC, while Durban City and Golden Arrows played to a goalless draw.
Polokwane City and Stellenbosch FC shared six goals in a 3-3 draw, while Chippa United and Richards Bay drew 1-1.
Chiefs will face Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday in one of the weekend’s biggest fixtures.
