New Order Investments (Pty) Ltd has confirmed that a structural incident involving the collapse of concrete slabs occurred at its construction site in Ormonde, Johannesburg, on 2 March 2026.

The collapse claimed the lives of nine people, while three others remain in hospital receiving medical treatment.

In a short statement issued on Tuesday, the developer said its immediate priority following the incident was the safety and welfare of workers on site. Emergency services responded to the scene, and the company says it is working closely with authorities to ensure all necessary measures are taken.

New Order announced that it has appointed an independent professional team to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the collapse. The team includes structural engineers, health and safety practitioners and other specialists tasked with establishing the facts, assessing compliance with building and safety standards, and recommending remedial steps.

The company says it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and regulatory authorities as parallel investigations continue.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragic incident,” the statement read, adding that the company is committed to providing appropriate support to the families of the deceased and others impacted.

Further updates will be communicated as more verified information becomes available.
