The CEO of Stadium Management South Africa, Bertie Grobbelaar, says enhanced security measures are in place to prevent counterfeit tickets at the upcoming Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The two rivals will meet at the FNB Stadium in a sold-out fixture expected to draw its full 94,000-seat capacity. Organisers say a newly implemented digital ticketing system is central to efforts aimed at improving access control and preventing overcrowding previously linked to fake tickets.
Grobbelaar said the upgraded system is part of a broader strategy to enhance spectator safety and streamline entry into the venue. “We can’t allow fake ticket holders and overcapacity to dictate game day for us. To achieve a more friendly experience, we need to improve access control to the venue. We have been involved with the last three to four fixtures at the venue, and while perfecting the new system comes with challenges, we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
Fans have been urged to arrive early to allow sufficient time for ticket processing and to minimise traffic congestion around the stadium precinct.
The highly anticipated clash carries significant league implications, with both sides aiming to strengthen their positions in the Betway Premiership standings. Kaizer Chiefs currently occupy fourth place, while Orlando Pirates sit second.
Supporters are encouraged to uphold the spirit of the derby by respecting fellow fans and complying with stadium regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable match-day experience.
