The driver of a side tipper truck involved in a multi-vehicle crash on the M41 near the M4 on-ramp in Durban North on Monday morning, a 23-year-old man, has surrendered to police.

The truck collided with at least 50 vehicles during peak hour traffic, injuring 22 people. Three of the injured were critically injured.

The truck went off the road and overturned a few hundred meters away from the accident. The truck driver fled the scene of the accident.

The Police spokesperson, Thenjiswa Ngcobo said in a statement: “A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Durban north SAPS for investigation. The driver fled the scene of the accident. He only turned himself in later last night, and the 23-year-old suspect has been charged with reckless and negligent driving; he will appear in court soon.”
