The discovery of another woman’s body in Springs has widened an already extensive murder investigation in Ekurhuleni, with police now probing the circumstances surrounding the 11th body found in the broader area since July.

The woman was found in a veld near Rhokana Road at about midday on Sunday after a security company vehicle spotted the body and alerted police.

SAPS has deployed a multidisciplinary team to the scene, bringing together detectives, Crime Intelligence, Crime Scene Management, Investigative Psychology Services and the task team already investigating the series of Ekurhuleni murders.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni was also expected at the scene as investigators began their preliminary assessment.

Despite the growing number of cases, police have not confirmed that Sunday’s discovery is connected to the other murders.

Investigators will now work to establish the woman’s identity, determine how she died and gather evidence that could help establish whether there are any links between the cases.

The latest discovery comes as police face mounting pressure to find answers over the deaths of women whose bodies have been found in different parts of Ekurhuleni.

SAPS said more information would be released once preliminary investigations had been completed.
