Chaos erupted in court on Monday when the family of the slain 18-year-old Grade 12 learner Lethabo Sibanda and members of the EFF, stood in the courtroom and accused the court of starting procedures without them.
EFF ward 42 councillor Lesedi Makhadane said the court was full so they requested to be called when proceedings started and they alerted the court elderlies to their situation.
But to their surprise the court proceeded and they were told afterwards the case has been postponed to 12 July, said an irate Makhadane.
“So because we were angry we went inside and demanded an apology and shared our frustration and disappointment, and the magistrate apologised. But still we feel that we were disrespected.
“I was sitting with the father of the deceased outside, imagine how he felt, just because the mother of the accused is a police woman, they get special treatment, we will not stand for it, we will fight for justice,”said Makhadane.
Lethabo’s uncle, Aaron Sibanda, said he is heartbroken because he raised nephew and taught him respect and honour and then had to watch him take his last breath in his hands.
The Rustenburg Magistrates Court postponed the murder and attempted murder case against a 19-year-old learner, Blessing Dintle Tladi from Geelhoutpark Secondary School, in Rustenburg, North West, to 12 of June.
Tladi is being charged with the fatal stabbing of Sibanda and the attempted murder of another pupil at a bus terminus last Friday in what is alleged to be a fight between pupils from two local high schools.
Lethabo will be laid to rest on Saturday at Tsitsing village near Rustenburg.
