It’ll be a bleak festive season for motorists, as they’ll have to dig deeper into their pockets at the petrol pumps.
This after the Department of Energy announced new fuel prices that’ll take effect from on Wednesday, 4 December 2024.
This is the second fuel increase decrease this year.
“Both grades of petrol will increase by 17 cents per litre.
Diesel 50ppm sulphur will increase by 54.88 cents per litre, and 500 ppm sulphur will increase by 55.88 cents per litre.
Illuminating paraffin at wholesale level will increase by 48.88 cents per litre and the single maximum national retail price of paraffin will increase by 66 cents per litre.
The maximum retail price of LP gas will increase by R1.72 cents per kilogram,” said the department spokesperson, Robert Maake.
According to Maake, several factors contributed to the December fuel price hikes.
“The price of Brent crude oil decreased slightly on average during the period under review from 73.28 to 72.70 US dollars per barrel, ” said the department’s Robert Maake.
The average international prices of petrol decreased slightly, and diesel increased due to more demand in Europe and America in the Northern Hemisphere in general for the winter season.
The rand depreciated against the dollar during the period under review from R17.53 to R17.93,” explained Maake.
