The North West Department of Education said it is pleased that no major incidents were reported across the province in the first week of the matric examinations.

As 45 003 matriculants across 490 examination centers sat for their exams from Monday with English Home Language Paper 1.

“The North West Department of Education is pleased to announce that the first week of the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations concluded successfully, with no major incidents reported across the province,” read a statement from the Department.

The Department acknowledged the work of teachers’ examination officials and the stakeholders, whose coordination and diligence helped to ensure a smooth start of the examinations.

According to the Department, the province’s 2024 NSC cohort has shown great commitment as they progress through this crucial milestone.

MEC Viola Motsumi expressed her appreciation to all stakeholders in the sector.

“We are encouraged by the incident-free start to this year’s matric exams.

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to community members, parents, and stakeholders across the province for prioritizing the safety and security of our learners during this important time.

Your cooperation has allowed our candidates to focus entirely on their exams, free from disruptions,” said Motsumi.

Motsumi also reaffirmed the province’s ambition to achieve a 90% pass rate and secure a top 3 position in the national results announcements in January 2025.

The Department says it remains committed to ensuring that all examination centers are equipped and secured, enabling learners to progress smoothly through their papers in the coming weeks.
