The two men are accused of assisting convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester in escaping from the Mangaung Prison, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Free State, and the NPA claims it has a strong case against them.

In addition to facilitating escapes, obstructing the administration of justice, fraud, and arson, former G4S employees Senohe Matsoare and Zolile Sekeleni, the father of Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, are accused of five other crimes. The two appeared briefly in today’s Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.

According to Provincial NPA spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, “The accused are currently facing five charges, including one for murder. The evidence that has been presented to us as prosecution at this time indicates that there was a body that was burned inside a holding cell at one of the units at the Mangaung Correctional Centre, so we decided to put that against the accused.

The matter has been postponed until April 17 in order to gather information about bail and consider filing a bail application. The two will be held in segregated jails.

In the midst of the Thabo Bester controversy, G4S is scheduled to testify before Parliament on Wednesday.
