Former SGB member appears in court for stealing R1m primary school money

A 34-year-old Ofentse Molemane was released on bail of R5000 by the Rustenburg Magistrates Court in the North West on Monday.Molemane surrendered to the police on Monday morning and was charged with 175 counts of fraud and theft.It is alleged that the suspect, who was employed as an administrative assistant by the Department of Education in Bojanala offices in Rustenburg, and also as the financial office of the School Governing Body SGB at Sunrise View Primary School, allegedly made transactions from the school’s bank coffers to his personal account one and also to his girlfriend’s account, who is a suspect in the case and is yet to be arrested. According to a police statement, an outstanding suspect who had no legitimate association with the school and did not render any services received more than R1 million which was transferred by Molemane from the school’s bank account between 2019 and 2020.Molemane has been instructed to report at the Mogwase police station twice a week and hand over his passport to the investigating officer as part of his bail conditions.The case was postponed to 14 November for further investigations while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the outstanding suspect.
