Police have announced that all four suspects wanted in connection with the Lusikisiki mass murders, have been arrested.

This comes in less than 24 hours from the time the SAPS issued an alert on them, and police said communities rallied together and informed them about their whereabouts.

The suspects are wanted in connection with the mass murder of 18 people at two homesteads at Ngobozana Village in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, two weeks ago.

Police said they have “reason to believe that the suspects would be able to assist them to solve the case.”

Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has thanked the public from all walks of life for the overwhelming support in providing information on the whereabouts of the suspects

He also applauded the media fraternity, social media users and all everyone who shared the pictures of these suspects, stood united and exposed the whereabouts of these suspects.

“To those who shared the pictures of these suspects on social media, to all the journalists and media houses that played their watchdog role, we are indebted to you.

This is what the SAPS can achieve when the whole country rallies behind our men and women in blue.

We thank you South Africa for assisting us to stamp the authority of the state,” said Masemola.

Police highlighted that they will not divulge where the suspects were found and arrested at this stage as this may jeopardise investigations.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, has abandoned bail at the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 45-year-old was arrested and charged for the Lusikisiki murders, and his case was postponed until 26th November.

It emerged in court that Myekethe is a parolee and has two prior convictions for escaping from lawful custody and murder.
