Residents across Gauteng are buzzing with complaints as an alarming spike in fly populations has taken over their homes. Pest control experts attribute this increasing infestation to a combination of hot and humid weather conditions, creating an environment that is remarkably favourable for these pesky insects.
Mario Pluke, a technical manager at a local pest control company, shared insights on the unnerving situation. “Flies are always around us. Everywhere you go, you will probably find flies. But I think the weather patterns that we’ve been having, I think that’s probably one of the key reasons why we seem to have had some sort of explosion of life,” he explained.
Residents have expressed their frustrations, noting the constant presence of flies in their homes, particularly in kitchens and dining areas. In light of these complaints, Pluke emphasised the importance of prevention as the first line of defence against fly invasions. “Our pose is obviously always about prevention. How do you prevent flies firstly from infesting a particular premise?” he said, underscoring the need for vigilance in maintaining cleanliness.
According to Pluke, the solution lies in simple yet effective measures. “You look at what is creating flies in your house. If it means wiping a table, cleaning your cups, making sure you don’t leave anything standing around. Make sure that you clean up as you go. So, all of those things are the basic stuff that can assist you in making sure that you are house safe, fly free,” he advised.
