Workers at Gold Reef City Casino and Theme Park say they will continue their strike until their demands are met, intensifying a dispute that has already disrupted operations for several days.

Employees affiliated with the Transport, Retail & General Workers Union have rejected a proposed 0.9% wage increase, arguing it falls far short amid rising living costs. The union is also calling for improved transport allowances, the reinstatement of provident fund contributions, and the restoration of full bonuses.

Union representatives accuse management of reneging on a commitment to reinstate pre-COVID benefits once the company’s financial position improved. They say no formal engagement has taken place since the strike began.

Spokesperson Lindokuhle Khanyi said workers remain resolute. “We will remain here until the employer calls us back to the table. No matter how long it takes, we are determined to negotiate in good faith and ensure our voices are heard,” he stated.

The ongoing industrial action has forced the theme park to close for four consecutive days, while casino operations remain partially affected. The disruption is resulting in financial losses for both employees and the business as the standoff continues.
