Former North West MEC’s Dr. Manketsi Tlhape, Wendy Nelson and Lenah Miga are amongst the eight newly appointed interim board members who’ll serve at the North West Housing Corporation (NHWC) with effect from 1st April 2025 until the appointment of new board.
The North West Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs said that MEC Oageng Molapisi made the appointment in terms of Section 3(2) of the North West Housing Corporation Act No. 24 of 1982.
The board also includes Kabelo Mataboge, former member of provincial legislature, Dikeledi Moagi, Samuel Tsagae, Sarah Nkatlo, and Ephraim Lepomane.
According to the department, the primary mission of the NWHC is to provide housing through development and property management.
Media Liaison and Spokesperson to the MEC, Lerato Gambu said that the Molapisi has also appointed Dr. Tlhape as the interim board chairperson, Mataboge as her deputy.
“The interim board has been directed to lead review of the current Act, and kick-start the process of filling the vacancy of the CEO, as the tenure of the incumbent ends in July 2025.
Immediate focus will also be on the Smart and Mega Cities Project, including the Mahikeng Student City,” said Gambu, who was speaking on YouFM Newshour.
Gambu rejected insinuations that the interim board is used to create employment for former exco-colleagues, friends and comrades in the ANC.
“Maybe we need to disagree with the view that says this is one form of creating employment.
I had indicated that amongst the criteria that the MEC had utilised in attempting to get a balanced board is the fact that one gender consideration had been there, experience and education, skills and expertise have been considered, the issue of all inclusivity has also been critical in the appointment of this board.
I think that it’s quite exciting for us as the department to announce such a board with such a wealth of experience cutting across former MEC’s as you say who carry a lot of experience regarding oversight,” explained Gambu.
The entity has been without the board let alone an interim one for over two years, making the Chief Executive Officer (Rev Sello Mogodiri) both the accounting officer and accounting authority.
The Interim Board is expected to hit the ground running as they have three-months effective from today to fulfil their mandate.
