Police have vowed to leave no stone unturned in the search for whoever is responsible for the killings of women in Gauteng’s Kempton Park area, following the discovery of a fifth body on Monday morning.
On the same day, the family of 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo positively identified her body at the Germiston mortuary.
Moselakgomo disappeared on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, after leaving her home in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, to go for an afternoon run.
This follows the discovery of a fifth body in Gauteng on Monday, as investigations into a number of cases involving the deaths of women in the Kempton Park area continue.
Lieutenant General Dimpane also expressed her deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose body was positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Elizabeth during this extremely painful time. The loss of a loved one under such circumstances is devastating, and we assure the family that the SAPS will do everything within its powers to establish exactly what happened to Elizabeth and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” police quoted Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Dimpane as saying.
The Acting National Commissioner has directed a multidisciplinary team comprising detectives and other specialised policing resources to intensify the investigations into these cases, police said.
“The team is working around the clock to establish the circumstances surrounding each death, analyse available evidence, identify possible linkages where they exist, and pursue all leads that may assist in bringing the investigations to a successful conclusion,” said SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe in a statement.
Lieutenant General Dimpane further assured the public that the SAPS remains fully committed to protecting women and bringing perpetrators of violence against women to justice.
“We will not rest until we have established the truth. Where there is evidence linking individuals to these crimes, we will pursue them relentlessly and ensure that they face the full might of the law,” Dimpane was quoted as saying.
Thus far, one suspect has been arrested in connection with the discovery of the first body in July and remains in custody.
Timeline of body discoveries
The bodies of four women were discovered in the Kempton Park area between July and September, while a fifth body was discovered on Monday.
- First body: Found near the R21 on 15 July 2026.
- Second body: Found near the R21 on 24 August 2026.
- Third body: Found on 10 September 2026. The body was unidentified and decomposed.
- Fourth body: Found in Rhodesfield on 12 September 2026.
- Fifth body: Discovered on 14 September 2026.
Police have meanwhile cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information. This follows unsubstantiated claims on social media that there could be a serial killer on the loose in the area.
Police have urged members of the public to rely on verified information from the SAPS and other official sources while investigations continue.
