Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane says the online admissions process got off to a smooth start on Thursday urging parents to apply early for next year’s admission.
The Gauteng Education Department opened its online admissions for Grade 1 and Grade 8 with Chiloane monitoring the opening at Winter-veldt Multi Purpose Center. Registration opened from Thursday and will close in a month on 14 July 2022.
Parents are urged to apply early to ensure their children are placed at their preferred schools.
The MEC for Education said they received about 60 000 applications in the first hour without any technical problems.
“So far so good. The system is quite efficient. So far we have not picked up any glitches while I was assisting the parents. I didn’t encounter any problems.
“Currently we are sitting at about 60 000 applicants so we are doing well so far in the first hour. So far we have not had parents who have called in or anyone who has enquired at least to my knowledge so far.
“The only thing that could have been a problem is the DHA (Department of Home Affairs) when they are logging in their IDs. Sometimes it just needs you to quickly reload and when you reload it, it picks it up again.
“But besides that everything has been working fine. So far the system is alright and we can assure parents that all you need is the internet, access to connectivity then you are fine. You are ready to go,” he added.
The Department of Education in Gauteng said it has opened 80 centre in the province to assist parents with applications.
In Tshwane there are decentralised walk-in centres for the application process.
