James Moloi has been re-elected as President of Athletics South Africa (ASA), President, James Moloi after receiving majority of the votes during the federation’s Quadrennial General Meeting held in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday.
His re-election marks his fourth year leading the organisation since he assumed the role back in 2021.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Moloi thanked the support and confidence the council showed in him while committing to elevate ASA.
“I am thankful for the support shown by the council, which shows that we’ve done well for the last four years.
Now I’m going to do my level best to uplift the sport even further and bring more events to South Africa,” Moloi was quoted.
Upon the return of Team SA from dominating the 2025 World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, Moloi urged the private sector to assist the country’s athletics with funding.
He expressed optimism on working with young athletes whom he believes are more than capable of winning medals and big tournaments.
Among the highlights of ASA’s general meeting was the election of John Mathane as the Vice President and Kesa Molotsane as the new Chairperson of the Athletes Commission.
Enoch Skosana remains the Chairperson for Road Running while Jakes Jacobs also retained his position as the Chairperson of Cross Country.
Meanwhile, the President of South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) Barry Hendricks, welcomed the voting process and implored this term’s ASA Board to outline its plans for the next four years including anticipated challenges.
He further encouraged unity amongst the members.
