Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has successfully contained the fire at the SAB Breweries in Soweto.

According to the EMS, the fire erupted in the outdoor crate storage within the premises.

“EMS Firefighting teams remain on scene, conducting salvaging and damping down operations to prevent any potential flare-ups.

“Fortunately, the structure on the premises was not affected by the blaze and remains unscathed,” said EMS spokesperson, Xolile Khumalo.

“The blaze reportedly began when grass in a nearby field caught fire, spread quickly and ignited storage crates on the premises.

“At this stage, no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is not yet known,” explained Khumalo.

The EMS has urged residents to stay clear of the area as a precaution.
