Orlando Pirates has confirmed that coach Jose Riveiro will be released from his contract earlier than the original date which was set for the end of June 2025.
According to a press release by the club, Riveiro requested the early release as he has signed with a new club.
“Given the timing, amidst a series of crucial fixtures-we believed it was best to delay this announcement until after the Nedbank Cup Final.
“While we would have preferred to formally honour him with a proper send-off, we fully respect his decision to depart before the end of his tenure,” read the statement.
Since assuming the role to coach pirates back in 2022, the Spaniard has led the team to great heights, claiming titles including the MTN8 and two Nedbank Cup, including a spot in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League.
The Buccaneers extended appreciation to his contribution describing it as a legacy of excellence which has cemented the club’s name into the history books of football
The club has called upon the fans to show up in their numbers during the Betway Premiership clash between Pirates and Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, to what will be his last endeavour with the team.
The team also announced that Assistant Coach Mandla Ncikazi will oversee the team’s remaining matches on a temporary basis, supported by Head Performance analyst Rayaan Jacobs and the entire staff and technical team.
