Kaizer Chiefs head into Wednesday night’s Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC at the Free State Stadium (7.30pm kick-off) confident of securing all three points, but wary of a resilient home side.
Chiefs are enjoying a strong run of form, extending their unbeaten streak to seven matches, with five wins and two draws. Their most recent result was a hard-fought 1–1 draw against rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, a match that followed a disrupted build-up but still earned them a valuable point.
The Soweto Derby draw came after Chiefs suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, making their recent recovery particularly significant in the context of their campaign.
Defender Aden McCarthy says the squad is motivated to maintain momentum, with personal significance attached to the fixture. Playing in Bloemfontein carries added meaning for him, as it is where his father, former player Fabian McCarthy, began his career.
Chiefs are also chasing a milestone, with the possibility of surpassing the 50-point mark for the first time since the 2019/20 season under Ernst Middendorp, when they finished second on 59 points.
Despite their strong form, McCarthy stressed that Siwelele will be no easy opposition. The hosts remain in 11th place with 29 points and are still pushing for a top-eight finish, having shown resilience this season, including holding Orlando Pirates to a draw.
He emphasised the importance of consistency as the season progresses, urging Chiefs to treat every match as a must-win in their pursuit of a top-three finish.
