EFF leader Julius Malema has agreed to apologise to Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Keoagile Matojane after exhausting his legal avenues to challenge a parliamentary ethics ruling.
The dispute stems from Malema’s questioning of Matojane at the Judicial Service Commission, which Parliament’s Ethics Committee found to have breached the Code of Ethical Conduct.
Malema challenged the ruling in the Western Cape High Court, but the court dismissed all five grounds of his application last year.
After continued non-compliance, Parliament’s Powers and Privileges Committee stepped in, with Malema now agreeing through his legal representatives to comply with the order.
He is expected to coordinate with Speaker Thoko Didiza to deliver the formal apology in Parliament by 30 September.
The case highlights Parliament’s efforts to enforce its ethical rulings, even when members initially challenge or resist disciplinary decisions.
